Tuesday, November 16, LEAGUE WORKSHOP: WHAT TECHNOLOGY MANAGERS REALLY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SECURITY – ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL. 3:45 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. – Room 404 – Atlantic City Convention Center. What Technology Managers really need to know about security: One size does not fit all. When it comes to technology security, there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution or blue-print to tell you exactly what you need. In these tough budget times, how do you know what is a critical investment that must be funded immediately and what is something that could be delayed another year? Having trouble deciding if your organization needs to acquire additional security hardware or software? How safe is safe enough? How do you know where to draw the line? We will focus answers to these questions and more on three sizes of organizations and compare and contrast the security needs from the perspective of 75 employees (small) 750 employees (medium) and 7,500 employees (large).
Wednesday, November 17. LEAGUE WORKSHOP: WHAT ELECTED OFFICIALS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TECHNOLOGY. 9:00 a.m. – 10:40 a.m. – Room 415 - Atlantic City Convention Center. This session is a primer for all high-level officials and managers and covers a variety of technology issues including: budgeting, staffing, risk management, technology governance, investing and re-investing in hardware and software, security and web development. The budget is tight, why does the IT manager keep insisting on increases? Do you need to understand why your technology practitioners bring questions to you that you don’t understand? What things could you do to make your IT practitioners rave about how “tech savvy” you are without knowing the difference between a bit and a byte? Have a question about technology management you want to ask a certified government chief information officer? If you can relate to any of these questions, then this session is designed just for you.
